I/C EDI is the Industrial/Commercial EDI Implementation Guidelines. These guidelines are used by providers and users of raw materials, packaging materials and maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) products. It is a subset of the ANSI ASC X12 national standard.
History and Background:
In 1996, GS1 US was approached by several Industrial/Commercial (I/C) sectors to determine the feasibility of developing common EDI implementation guidelines. GS1 US conducted a study on the technical feasibility of merging several existing I/C industry implementation guidelines into one. The analysis concluded that it was technically feasible to develop cross - industry implementation guidelines that would address and satisfy the basic interface requirements of the guidelines reviewed. After several meetings with Industry representatives, an Industrial/Commercial (I/C) Purchase Order (P.O.), based on the ASC X12 national standard was developed. Incredibly, cross industry trading partners were able to implement this transaction set in as little as twenty minutes.
Based on this success and the commitment from many I/C sectors, GS1 US, in November 1997, became the management and administrative body for I/C EDI.
Implementation Guidelines:
The I/C EDI implementation guidelines include transaction sets which support the following business functions:
- Data Administration
- Ordering
- Logistics
- Financial
- Business Support
