There is growing awareness of the value of using commercial standards to improve supply chain management practices within the Public Sector/Government. GS1 US is working closely with the Public Sector/Government to adopt the GS1 System – the most implemented suite of commercial standards in the world. The major supply chain opportunities are managing assets using the Global Individual Asset Identifier (GIAI), procuring commercial-off- the-shelf (COTS) products using the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) including the U.P.C., delivering logistics units using the SSCC, and identifying locations using the Global Location Number (GLN).
