This guideline is intended for use by all GS1 System users that are required to identify assets with Department of Defense (DoD) Unique Identification (UID) markings. It provides best practices for the application of the UID to items that are produced, stocked, stored, issued, or used in DoD's supply chain. It also provides best practices for the management of these assets from conception to disposal or to their overhaul. The guideline provides sufficient information and technical detail to implement the use of the GS1 System for UID applications.
